All Mama Bear Mentorship approaches are:
Rooted in Nature - We understand that people are natural beings, part of nature and therefore reconnecting with nature and relying upon nature as part of the healing process is beneficial. We establish our ideas around people connecting with their true nature as a human and their spiritual nature as an energetic being exploring life and bound to certain principles and realities of our existence.
Anti-Pathology - We don’t use labels or define people as having “disorders” when their responses are natural and understandable given their circumstances or experiences. We don’t believe or have evidence that the psychiatric industry is helpful for most people or that their theories are based on verifiable, scientific or medical evidence.
Victim-Focused - We focus on people at the centre of their experiences and are not focused on external interventions that require them to rely on other people or blame them for their responses to their experiences. We explore the balance between self-responsibility and where social responsibility avoids or neglects to tackle violence, abuse or oppression culturally.
Non-ideological - We don’t adopt modern ideas that require a deviation from natural language or biological realities. We do explore energy and grounded perceptions of these ideas. We seek balance and explore the nuance between spiritual expression and physical limitations. We do assume that at some point in their lives, people will experience trauma and periods of pain or suffering, and it is normal to have to learn to overcome victimisation and power dynamics as part of maturing and personal growth. People can not be protected from life happening to them.
Slow and Steady - In our experience, full recovery is likely to take years more than weeks or months, and our deep dive approach is designed for a long-term healing and recovery process. We do offer courses that are designed to be quicker, and some offer a year-long guided process, but all our work builds on one another for an in-depth, holistic approach.
Our three core principles of what we teach and share as our process are through skill building and practical experience.
Ecosystem Mindset - considering body, mind, spirit energy, emotions, relationships, and environments. Understanding how everything is connected and affects each area of life.
Shadow Work - understanding the motivations and conditioning that drive the deeper reasons why we do what we do, why we feel how we feel and exploring the core wounds and needs we have to heal and recover.
Life Design - making practical steps and consciously redesigning life that suits the individual. Gathering data and evidence of what works for you, exploring authenticity, and meeting needs in helpful ways.
We also explore love in the three aspects of loving self, others and life. This is looking at how we care for ourselves, how we interact with others, and how we process life events.
The support Mama Bear offers is designed to be outside of the norm and an active alternative to the current, mainstream routes and offerings. Mainly because:
We believe that when connected with their innate, sacred power, people can solve their own problems and that their personal growth and personal evolution are entangled with that process. The more others intervene, and they try to take over or take part in that process, the more people are being conditioned to give away rather than evolve and integrate their power and personal potential.
We see how everything is connected. Recovery is complex when dealing with trauma, mental health, chronic illness and the manifestations of health and well-being and relationship issues.
I have had spiritual experiences, and my life path has guided me through a spiritual process of understanding life and the world, and I do not separate these experiences. My understanding of the mind, trauma recovery and energy has all come as part of following my spiritual path and not through any specific, formal training in this area.
I personally (as the host of the pace) have no personal evidence or lived experience of working with mainstream systems (doctors, talking therapy and medications, etc.) that helped me recover, beyond (at best) temporary or short-term relief. These approaches actually caused me more harm as I was neglected, ignored and left waiting for support, only to be given labels and advised lifelong medication as a "treatment" plan with no actual help to heal. Eventually, taking personal responsibility and connecting with God as part of my soul's evolution was ultimately required for my healing and recovery.
That being said, we know that people struggle within the current system when they are left craving some support and understanding. The lack of support can become very difficult, and the huge array of information and conflicting online information probably doesn’t help often.
It can also often take a radical shift in thinking or drastic circumstances or after years of trying to find support and failing, for someone to choose to embrace the deep, complex route we offer.
I have alternative training and certifications in different areas that I felt were relevant or that I was guided to explore, either for my own healing or to benefit clients or my work. I use all these insights as part of the holistic approach offered here.
I have extended my adult education to include:
Understanding Autism - Level 2
Victim Focus Training - Understanding Self Blame & Victim Blaming. PLUS Understanding the Psychology of Self-Blame & Victim Blaming.
Victim Focus Training - Recovery After Sexual Assault.
Permaculture Design Certificate
Art of Hosting
Catalyzing Citizenship
Work that Reconnects
Non-Violent Communication
Introduction to Council
Spiritual Healing (Practical)
I have been able to recover and heal from a string of challenging, traumatic experiences over the course of my lifetime since childhood, and I have found that following my own process was helpful.
Although some aspects of the therapies I have received were helpful, my work has developed from getting really specific about what has helped.
Combining my understanding of spirituality and energy, nature, permaculture design and working with natural solutions.
My personal experience is in overcoming:
Mental health issues - depression, anxiety, and suicide.
Addiction - alcohol, smoking, cannabis, pain killers, energy drinks, and work.
Neurodivergent diagnoses - EUPD, ADHD.
Chronic Health diagnosis - Fibromyalgia.
Abuse - domestic (partner), childhood sexual abuse, bullying.
Childhood neglect
Homelessness
Victimisation - Crime such as burglary, assault, rape.
Bereavement and loss - Pregnancy loss, family bereavement, and losing businesses/projects.
The approach does seem to be a little different to what is usually considered holistic, as in I don’t necessarily weigh my preference heavily toward one particular theory type of choice. Rather, I understand that different modalities, practices and therapies will help people at different stages, and we consider the ecosystem mindset and the holistic nature of recovery as an adaptable, personal journey.
