About Our Spaces...

Blackhill Club Community Garden

Read about our first & most established land based project.

Blackhill Cub Community Garden was established in 2016.
Now in the 7th year of its 10 year design development we focus our sessions around growing food, herbs & creating communal spaces.

This space has established, accessible spaces we use to host sessions & share knowledge or practical skills.

In this space we use all natural, organic methods based upon Permaculture principles & ethics.

  • We create our own compost & organic feeds on site.
  • We grow & dry all our own edible & medicinal herbs.
  • We collect, save & propgate from many of our own seed varities.

Designed by Love School host Terri Lee-Shield the space was developed by members of the community & previosuly connected with The ALT Group.

The land space is connected with Blackhill Club as we use the unused land surrounding the club building.

The site boasts:
  • A 20ftx10ft Poly Tunnel
  • A large decking area & bar
  • Several outdoor seating areas
  • Indoor access to our office space, toliet & kitchen

Now part of Love School Green Spaces we plan to dedicate this space to active learning around:
  • Practical growing techniques for people keen to learn self-suffiency skills for their own purposes.
  • Hosting skills & creating community or group events.

What we learn

  • Naturally growing fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers.
  • Compost and natural feeds.
  • Seed saving and storing.
  • Design, landscaping, building and creation.
  • No Dig growing methods.

About Our Spaces...

Fanny Bush Forest Garden

Read about our latest & most ambitious land based project!

Fanny Bush Forest Garden was established in 2021.
Based in Chopwell Tyne & Wear this project is in it's second year of its 10 year design development.

This project is designed to replicate a small self build homestead for people interested in learning about small scale, off-grid living & long term land based production tehniques.

We focus our sessions around building functional spaces by hand.
The land design is based on planting for long term gain of perrennial plants, herbs & trees.
As we develop we plan to introduce a growing area & raise birds & bees on the land for food production.

Love School host Terri Lee-Shield has claimed this unused, community land that was previously dedicated for allotments. The local council ended it's use for growing purposes leaving the space abandoned and left to become overgrown with brambles & weeds.

The design here focuses on transforming the land using no-dig methods with a slow but structured method, focusing on long-term growing techniques to create a diverse & productive space.

The space will be used as a disconnected short term hosting space, for community gatherings during significant events & for sharing any surplus produce with the local community.

You can read about the project start in the private blog below.
